The Laboratory Transcriptionist will transcribe tissue and cytology reports for completion of the patient medical record in a safe manner. Transcriptionist Job Purpose: Supports Medical Case Managers by transcribing dictated notes into case management software.



Transcriptionist Job Duties:

Transcribe dictated case management notes and reports and translate abbreviations into fully understandable form. Edit as necessary and return reports within 12 hours.

- Take dictation using company provided software and foot pedal.

- Review and edit transcribed reports or dictated material for spelling, grammar, punctuation, clarity, consistency, and proper medical terminology.

- Transcribe dictation for multiple case managers, providing a 12 hour turnaround time.

- Distinguish between homonyms and recognize inconsistencies and mistakes in medical terms, referring to dictionaries, drug references, and other sources on anatomy, physiology, and medicine.

-Translate medical jargon and abbreviations into their expanded forms to ensure the accuracy of patient and health care facility records.

- Identify mistakes in reports and check with case managers to obtain the correct information.



Skills/Qualifications: Excellent Writing and Grammar Skills, Knowledge of Medical Terminology, Verbal Communication, Previous Transcription Experience REQUIRED, Professionalism, Organization, Attention to Detail, Teamwork.



Availability: This is a telecommute position. Medical Meeting Transcription (anywhere)


Typist must be able to type medical verbatim or clean read transcription. You will be tested prior to being hired. Below is more information about the position and screening process.



Position:

This is a contractor position. We are looking for typists who are willing to type 1 hour of audio per 24 hour day, at least 3-4 days per week. Average turnaround time for files is 2-5 business days, but sometimes it can be 24 hours. From time to time, there are same day rushes which are offered to the team via email. It is preferred you are easily accessible, via email or IM on days you are on the calendar.



If you are unable to commit to at least 4 audio hours per week, you will not be hired at this time.





Compensation:

Every transcriptionist we hire will start out in Tier 1 until a performance review is completed at the end of 30 days or when five projects have been completed successfully.



Tier one starts at $.95 cents per minute but is subject to typist availability, results of the screening test, and eagerness to begin working. Those with more availability and who are able to deliver quality work while learning multiple formats, will have their rate increased at the end of their trial month. The ranges goes up to $1.25 per minute.



Performance reviews are held yearly with transcriptionists based on how well they manage their workload. Items such as delivering error-free work on time, acceptance of assigned work consistently, flexibility to increase availability when we are faced with rush work or work overflow, a positive attitude, and motivation to become a team player are what we look for when promoting people to higher pay scales.



Experience required:

Experience typing medical content. These are not hospital or doctors notes; they are advisory board meetings, interviews, focus groups, presentations.



Much of what we type is EXTREMELY medical and technical. It is imperative that you have medical typing experience as well as a medical spellcheck.



Experience transcribing multiple speakers and correctly identifying speakers' voices. We often transcribe focus groups, conferences, board meetings, et cetera.



Ability to research unfamiliar terms correctly.



Experience typing speakers with foreign accents.



Attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple formats for a variety of clients.



Experience typing both clean read and verbatim transcripts is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Utilizes dictation equipment, computer, and/or word processor to transcribe letters, medical/legal reports, or other projects assigned in a timely and accurate manner
Maintains a current list of reports transcribed on a daily basis
Prioritizes work according to importance of report or physician needs
Recognizes, interprets, and evaluates inconsistencies and discrepancies in medical dictation and appropriately edits, revises, and clarifies them without altering the meaning of the dictation or changing the dictator's style
Recognizes and reports any problems, errors and discrepancies in dictation and/or examinee records that cannot be easily corrected to the Transcription Supervisor for review
Return dictated reports in printed or electronic form to the Quality Assurance Department
Maintains current letterhead and signature blocks, updating information when required
Ensures all dictation meets company standards of quality and is completed within the established timelines
Maintains dictation equipment regularly and reports any necessary repairs to management
Participates in various educational and or training activities as required


High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of one to two years of college or trade school training for medical transcriptionist recommended. One year on the job experience within a medical or legal office preferred.
