In addition to focusing on reliability, this job posting also has a specific list of hardware and software requirements.   If you find yourself shopping for a new computer, you should always have a list of required specs on hand.

Retail giant Walmart has recently struck up a deal with Dell computers.  I assume that there will be some packages set up exclusively for Walmart with a focus on low price.  I recommend Dell computers, but I would caution you that they do have computers that are aimed at the entry level buyer which may not have the features, speed or memory required to reliably perform transcription work.  If you can find computers that come with Word, and some virus protection installed, you are ahead of the game.  My most recent computer came with Word.  The Dell that I bought about three years ago does not.

Saxe & Associates, Inc. has immediate part-time opportunities for United States, home-based medical transcriptionists.  Candidates must be reliable, self-motivated and have a minimum of 2 years orthopedic transcription experience.  We are looking for professionals that have an excellent understanding of medical terminology with superior writing skills and attention to detail.  Meeting turnaround time is a must.

Transcriptionists must have access to a secure and reliable personal computer with the following requirements:

* Windows 2000 or Windows XP
* Microsoft Word 2000, Word 2002 or Word 2003
* Internet Explorer 6 or higher
* Reliable DSL/Cable high speed Internet connection
* Anti-virus protection
* Anti-spyware/malware protection
